Program Overview

 

Aashirvaad Smart India Program is a unique initiative started in FY 24-25 aimed at creating awareness on importance of Iodine and Iodized salt along with healthy eating practices. Through this unique initiative, ITC Ltd., along with Institute of Global Development aims to reach 32 districts and over 30 lakh beneficiaries including children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The program incorporates community-based activities, school workshops, education materials, aimed at spreading awareness and encouraging behavior change.

 

The program was launched in Sep’24, in the esteemed presence of Dr M. C. Sudhakar, Cabinet Minister for Higher Education, Government of Karnataka.

 

With its program mascots Buddhi Girl and Buddhi Boy, Aashirvaad Smart India Program marks a significant step toward tackling Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) and fostering healthier communities across India.

 

Expected Outcomes of the Program

 

Increased knowledge, attitude and practices related to iodine deficiencies management & prevention among the school children, adult men and women, frontline health workers

Objectives

 
  • To improve awareness on the importance of iodine and iodized salt as a simple mechanism to include iodine in daily diet among women (18-49 years), including pregnant and lactating women and adolescents (15-19 years)

 

  • To create the enabling environment in the communities and schools that support the consumption of adequate iodine and promote the consumption of a balanced diet

 

  • To promote the use of iodized salt among beneficiaries in place of non-iodized/ inadequately iodized salt

Partnerships
